In honor of Dr. Mollie Wallick’s memory, The LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans is proud to announce the campaign to establish the Dr. Mollie Marcus Wallick Professorship in Psychiatry. Dr. Wallick’s life and career were dedicated to thoughtfulness and dignity. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted wife, mother, and professional. Dr. Wallick’s twenty-plus year career at LSU as an educator, mentor and psychologist was committed to meeting psychological needs and providing support to medical, nursing and allied health students as well as those in post graduate training.

Dr. Wallick was respected nationally as a preeminent spokesperson not only for counseling at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center but for dedicating herself to achieving the highest ethical standards. She was tireless in meeting the needs of all people, especially women, members of the gay and lesbian community, and those encountering disparities in available compassionate services. The campaign ensures that the Department of Psychiatry has a permanent source of financial support for scientific and medical research that will carry on Dr. Wallick’s dedication to diversity training in medical education for years to come.

Our goal is to raise $60,000 for the endowed Professorship honoring Dr. Wallick. Then we will apply to the Louisiana Board of Regents for a $40,000 match, bringing the total endowment to $100,000. The Regents matching program was instituted for endowed chairs and professorships with resources invested in trust that came from an oil settlement over oil rights several years ago. It is a wonderful return on investment for donors and for Louisiana’s institutions of higher learning. Dr. Wallick’s family has already generously donated $30,000 towards the Professorship.

Dr. Wallick was repeatedly honored during her lifetime by numerous organizations for her quality and her daring to make a difference. I hope that you will help join our efforts by making a donation to this fund to memorialize her wonderful achievements. Donations can be made by check or credit card and sent to Jaimee Carreras, LSUHSC Foundation, 450A, S. Claiborne Ave., New Orleans, LA 70112 or online at Please make a note that the donation is intended for the Wallick Professorship. If you have questions Jaimee can be reached by phone at (504) 568-5727 or email at
